My initial concept for my final project was to create a podcast to inform the public about mental health and how they can use different skills and techniques to help them spot people who are suffering in mental health. The message I’m trying to give is that everyone in the world goes through mental health once in there. My target audience is young teenagers and young adults. This is because people at this age don’t tell people a lot of things and never open up to people. These are my own personal viewpoint as I have seen people do the same. The specialism I have used is a range of things I used film to experiment which didn’t work out but then I used sound recording to record all my speech. This has helped me as I was always scared to talk to a mic for people to listen to and also to be recorded. I have a passion of speaking to people about things and helping them though things. This gave me the perfect time for me to do it as I was able to speak about issues which have affected people which I know and talk about it and inform many more people on what to do when they need help.
I have done different types of research which was from
questionnaires, research on facts from websites on BBC and mental health
helplines. I had done research into what age group of people are affected by
mental health. There was a particular group of people which stuck out. This was
18 year olds – 22 year olds. But this made me think if I should just add a few
more years to that figure of 22 so I upped mine to 25. In the productions of my
podcast I had used different types on speech tones which was from emotive to
direct language. The conventions I used were such as different time lengths. I
used one convention which was the first episode of all podcasts are shorter
than others. I created my first podcast to be shorter and then my second
episode longer so I stayed with the codes of conventions of all the podcasts I
have seen and heard. I personally think I could have managed my time properly
and given myself more time to do my production and complete more production and
not stress about doing work when having less time before my deadline.
The audience of my product is teenagers over the age of 16
to young adults which are starting a family. This age span is from 16-25 years
of age. My demographic characteristics are all people from all genders and all
backgrounds. The people who have listen to my podcast have told me both positive
and negative feedback. Such as you need to make longer podcasts and some people
said that you have given a lot of information in the time frame you have used.
I attracted my target audience by uploading my podcasts on
man main stream websites and app which people use to listen to podcasts. These
range from sound cloud to apple music and they have a huge influx of people
using those apps to listen to podcasts. The way I selected content to appeal to
my target audience is by talking about issues which have affected many people
from the age of my target audience. I spoke about serious issues which affect
many people on a daily in their lives.
I had considered the view of social in my product. I had
done questionnaires so people are able to tell me what they want to be said in
my podcasts and how long they want it to be. This allowed me to plan what needs
to be done in them and what I shouldn’t do. I wanted to get a input from other
people so I would be able to get a view point of what affects people on a daily
as people are affected by different things.
My product matches the codes and conventions as my podcast
has two views in the podcasts causing it not to be biased. These are one of the
main codes and conventions for a podcast of making sure it’s not only one sided
but speaks from both sides.
I had used a range of hardware and software. These go from
mic, recorders and stands. I also used software’s such as audition and premier
pro. These are because I needed audition to edit my recording for my video and
then needed premier pro to upload it onto YouTube. I found that premier pro was
easy to use and I have used it last year for my level 2 course. But I was
struggling to use audition as I haven’t had that much experience using it. I
encountered a big problem when editing which was I had a hissing sound when I was
recording due to the mic messing up o I struggled to remove that and then when I
did it was the best I could do. The skills I have gained over the year has been
immense. I have learnt lost more about software’s I have never used ever and
gained more experience in software’s used before by me.
My final product does match my initial design I had this is
because of the knowledge I had of the podcast industry and how it works. The
few unsuccessful parts in my product were the parts when I was recording and
had to cut my clips down. I had planned for my clips to be 5-8 minutes long but
that didn’t work as it became shorter. I would add more episodes which would
allow me to make a series for my podcast. My audience feedback given to me was
both positive and negative. But I learnt that sometimes things don’t work out
for a reason until you prove what you have done wrong and than correcting it. This shows that things always need to be improved in one way as you will never have a good product as there will always be errors. I learnt when doing this product that nothing is perfect and that there will always be issues when creating items.
